Safety & Security

The safety and security of patients, staff, visitors, and all other individuals who spend time at the Seven Oaks Hospital and Health Campus is something we take very seriously as an organization. As we continue to focus on the safety and security of the facility, we would like to share information about Protection Services at the site.

Protection Services Officers are on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Officers are stationed at the Level 2 Security Office and the Urgent Care entrance seven days per week and offer support at the Leila entrance daily from 06:00 to 24:00.

Protection Services Officers also conduct hourly rounds throughout the campus to support safety, security, and rapid response. They are available to respond to incidents and assist staff, patients, and members of the public at any time.

Protection Services offers safe and secure handling of items that may pose a concern, including temporary storage when appropriate, and conducts searches only when there is an immediate risk to safety or security. Safe Walk services are available to escort staff to their vehicles within campus parking lots upon request.

The campus is supported by closed-circuit video surveillance to enhance safety and situational awareness. Courtesy lockers are available in the Urgent Care Department, allowing individuals to securely store personal belongings while accessing care. The following initiatives have either been implemented or in progress:

Completed:

  • Implementation of Amnesty Lockers
  • Implementation of additional secured access points
  • Upgraded lighting in staff and visitor parking areas
  • Implementation of Protection Services 24/7
  • Establishment of an Urgent Care Violence Prevention Task Force

In Progress:

  • CCTV coverage upgrades
  • Implementation of the SAFE App to support frontline staff

Code White protocols are in place to support a timely, coordinated response to violent or aggressive behaviours involving patients or visitors. A Code White is activated to summon trained Protection Services personnel and appropriate clinical support to help de‑escalate situations and maintain the safety of everyone on campus. Following any Code White event, debriefings are held to review the response, identify opportunities for improvement, and strengthen ongoing safety practices across the campus.

In addition, policies and operational procedures related to photo identification support Protection Services in managing access to the hospital and ensuring clear identification of staff, students, contractors, and visitors.

Communication with patients, staff, visitors, and other individuals about patient safety and security is supported through a variety of channels, including strategically placed posters and public‑facing monitors located throughout the campus. While no single safety or security measure can prevent all incidents, we remain committed to ongoing communication, evaluation, and continuous improvement to strengthen the safety of our environment.
