Wellness Institute
The Wellness Institute at Seven Oaks General Hospital is Canada’s first hospital-owned and operated medical fitness facility and a nationally and internationally recognized leader in health promotion, chronic disease prevention, and rehabilitation. Located on the Seven Oaks Hospital campus, the Wellness Institute is an integral part of the hospital’s commitment to improving health beyond traditional acute care—supporting prevention, recovery, rehabilitation, and long-term wellbeing.
A Core Part of Seven Oaks Hospital’s Vision
Seven Oaks Hospital has a long-standing commitment to health promotion and community wellbeing. This vision recognizes that improving health requires more than treating illness—it also requires investment in prevention, rehabilitation, and lifestyle-based approaches to care.
As early as the 1990s, the hospital anticipated the growing impact of chronic disease, population aging, and the need for community-based health supports. In response, it advanced a more proactive model of care focused on functional health and prevention.
This approach positioned Seven Oaks Hospital as a leader in what is now widely recognized as the shift toward sustainable, prevention-oriented healthcare systems.
From Vision to Reality
In 1993, a feasibility study completed in partnership with the University of Manitoba confirmed the value and viability of a hospital-based wellness centre aligned with emerging trends in preventive healthcare and lifestyle medicine.

Since then, it has evolved into a comprehensive centre supporting:

- Lifestyle medicine and wellness support
